Opera McGill—Street Scene @ Monument-National : Salle Ludger-Duvernay

Cross-Atlantic Arias

Premiered in 1946 and based on Elmer Rice’s Pulitzer-winning play by the same name, Kurt Weill’s Street Scene innovatively merged the genres of American musical theater and European opera, instantly becoming a beloved and unique American classic. In part a story of romance and a story of an affair escalating into tragedy, this highly demanding opera, both musically and dramatically, is brought to life by the singers of Opera McGill and the musicians of the MGSO under the direction of stage director Patrick Hansen and conductor Brian DeMaris. Join us in the beautiful Ludger-Duvernay Hall of Monument National for three exciting days of music, drama, and spectacle!

Following his arresting production of Hanel’s Imeneo, renowned director Tim Albery returns to direct the Canadian premiere of Jonathan Dove’s Mansfield Park. Based on the novel by Jane Austen in which the young Fanny Price is sent from her impoverished home to live at Mansfield Park, the country estate of her wealth uncle, where her problems become increasingly complicated. This new production is designed by Michelle Tracey with lighting by Jason Hand. Sandra Horst conducts.
