The work was first created in five acts at the beginning of the 1866-1867 season of the Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens. It is Offenbach’s 66th ^lyrical  work, composed when he was at the height of his fame. He is therefore in a very good position to depict in broad daylight, with the help of his librettists, delightful pictures of Parisian life, not forgetting a few parodies, references and snubs to fashionable society. The director Jean-Romain Vesperini, like Offenbach who proposed a modern opera, sets the action in the chic and trendy Paris of the 80s!
