Canadians at Oper Frankfurt: a good-news 20-21 season

by | May 11, 2020 | Featured, News

Oper Frankfurt has rolled out its line-up for 2020/21, and it comes with its usual steady presence of Canadian singers onstage.

Of particular note are soprano Ambur Braid and bass-baritone Iain MacNeil, both members of the Oper Frankfurt Ensemble. Braid will sing Fiorella in Jacques Offenbach’s The Bandits, opening in October, 2020 in its first-ever performance in Frankfurt. Later in the season, she sings Madame Lidoine in Claus Guth’s production of Dialogues des Carmélites, running June-July 2021 in another Frankfurt first. Barrie Kosky’s Salome is set for a revival in Jan-Feb. 2021, which will be a much-anticipated return for Braid in the title role, after the premiere run was cut short by COVID-19.

MacNeil is slated to sing in a new production of Zemlinsky’s Der Traumgörge (Görge the Dreamer), opening November 2020. He’ll also share the title role in Le nozze di Figaro (opening September, 2020) and join the casts of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (Sept-Oct. 2020) and Werther (May-June 2021).

You can also spot Simone Osborne as Norina in a new production of Don Pasquale (November 2020), Gordon Bintner in Xerxes, Werther, and Manon Lescaut, and Julia Dawson in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk.
