La vie Parisienne Offenbach
Festival d’Opéra de Québec

Text is from the Festival d’Opéra de Québec website.

Parisian life will be the highlight of the festival. In this joyful work, where the atmosphere is festive, we find idle dandies, cheated tourists, disguised servants… It is in some way a satire of a section of society devoted to appearances and the ephemeral. Pure entertainment!

The work was first created in five acts at the beginning of the 1866-1867 season of the Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens. It is Offenbach’s 66th lyrical  work, composed when he was at the height of his fame. He is therefore in a very good position to depict in broad daylight, with the help of his librettists, delightful pictures of Parisian life, not forgetting a few parodies, references and snubs to fashionable society. The director Jean-Romain Vesperini, like Offenbach who proposed a modern opera, sets the action in the chic and trendy Paris of the 80s!

To interpret the many characters, we will be delighted to find artists who left their mark on the last edition of the Quebec Opera Festival, local singers that we cherish, irresistible young talents and solid international stars. We will of course find the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, the Choir of the Opéra de Québec and dancers. A joyful cast that will dazzle your eyes and ears!
