FEATURED CANADIANS: Piano: Boram Ahn, Zerbinetta: Lara Secord-Haid, A Wigmaker / Harlequin: Micah Schroeder
Text from the MusikfuerMusik Künstler Kollaborativ website:
Can you perform a vaudeville play and a serious Greek opera at the same time and as one piece? Strauß and Hoffmansthal dare to try this with this much-loved comic but also profound masterpiece.
Have you found the answer to what makes good art and good entertainment? We hope you are well entertained at the Ariadne auf Naxos concert in the Bürgersaal Berlin Zehlendorf!
A Rich Man’s Party: The performers from two different shows wait backstage before providing the evening’s entertainment… but then there’s a sudden change of plans. The rich man decides that the opera seria and the vaudeville should be performed in one piece…and must finish promptly at 9 p.m. so they can watch the fireworks afterwards!
“Ariadne” (aka, the opera’s main singer) is not amused, but Zerbinetta finds this a good opportunity to improvise and have a good time. Will the ladies and their gentlemen pull off the show?
Prepare for an evening of fun and musical thrills in this masterpiece by Strauss and Hofmannsthal.
This project is dedicated in loving memory to Bette McNaught.
