The Bavarian State Opera announced that Canadian bass-baritone Gerald Finley has been awarded the prestigious title of Kammersänger.  The ceremony took place after a performance of July 20th performance of Parsifal at the National-theatre, in which Finley sang the role of Amfortas.

Finley has been closely associated with the Bayerische Staatsoper since his house debut as Don Giovanni at the 2011 Munich Opera Festival. He will continue to be a regular guest at the Bayerische Staatsoper. In their next season, he will sing the title roles of Der fliegende Holländer and Macbeth and present a song recital. Gerald Finley joins other distinguished singers who have been awarded the title of Kammersänger at the Bavarian State Opera, a list that includes Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Jonas Kaufmann, Nina Stemme, Plácido Domingo, Brigitte Fassbaender, Diana Damrau, Waltraud Meier and others.
