Love, Wagner-sized: Vancouver Opera offers free Valentine’s Day double-bill

by | Feb 2, 2021 | Featured, News

On February 13 7:30pm PST, Vancouver Opera presents a free Valentine’s Day presentation of two of Wagner’s most romantic works, his Wesendonck Lieder and Siegfried Idyll. The performance, recorded at Vancouver’s Christ Church Cathedral, features mezzo-soprano Krisztina Szabó alongside maestro Leslie Dala and members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. (Personal note from the author: the Wesendonck Lieder, which have a very romantic origin story, are impossibly gorgeous and you will be a blubbering mess after hearing them – in a good way.)

The Valentine’s Day show is free to stream live; sign up via Vancouver Opera’s website for your viewing link.

As an added bonus, there are prizes! Sign up for the performance by 11:59pm on February 7, and you’ll be entered into the draw to win a $100 gift certificate for Granville Island Delivery Co., and a basket of wine from Mission Hill Family Estate.

So, if you’re looking for something indulgent this Valentine’s Day, Vancouver Opera’s dose of Wagner is it.
