For the past 8 and a half years Michael has been the CEO of SK Arts (the Saskatchewan Arts Board). Previously he has held major positions with the Metcalf Foundation, The School of Toronto Dance Theatre and Arraymusic. Michael brings a wealth of opera knowledge, arts management and administration experience to this position.

“I am delighted that Michael is joining Opera Canada at a critical point in its 64-year history. The publishing industry is undergoing tremendous change and no magazine can continue to operate in a traditional fashion. We believe that Michael has the necessary skills and experience to steer Opera Canada magazine and its expanding website in new directions to ensure its continued success,” said Eva Innes, chair of the Board of Directions of Opera Canada Publications.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Opera Canada at this point in their history,” says Michael. “I have a history with both the magazine and the art form, and I believe both in honouring the strength of its legacy and in the enormous potential of the magazine to transform as a resource for the next generation of opera lovers.

Michael replaces Elizabeth Bowman, who has left Opera Canada after two years as Editor-in-chief, having steered the magazine and web site to new levels of distinction.

Opera Canada, a registered Canadian charity, is the oldest continuously published arts periodical in Canada, available by subscription and on selected newsstands. It offers a comprehensive review of opera in Canada and of Canadians working in the opera world at large. In addition to the quarterly full-colour magazine, the magazine delivers the latest opera news online through www.operacanada.ca, and on their active social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube), and via their e-newsletter.

Opera Canada also hosts the annual Rubies Awards, a gala celebrating the accomplishments of Canadians who have made significant contributions to the opera world.
