Dora Awards 2018: Orphée scoops big win in opera category

June 26th, 2018: The recipients of the 39th annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards were announced last night in Toronto at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre, with the collaborative production of Orphée dominating the opera division with an impressive five-award win. Presented jointly by Against the Grain Theatre, The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and Opera Columbus, Orphée took home Doras for Outstanding Production, Outstanding Female Performance by Marcy Richardson, Outstanding Ensemble Performance, Outstanding Costume Design by Zane Pihlstrom and Outstanding Choreography by Austin McCormick.

With a total of three Doras, Tapestry Opera, Vancouver Opera and Canadian Stage’s The Overcoat was also recognized for an Outstanding Male Performance by Geoffrey Sirett (who was recently featured on our cover!), Outstanding Scenic Design by Ken MacDonald and Outstanding Lighting Design by Alan Brodie.
