Fast-rising Canadian mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo is coming to the small screen, in a digital recital with pianist Sophia Muñoz, presented by Vocal Arts DC. From April 9-18, 2021, you can stream the recital, recorded in December 2020 at Berlin’s B-Sharp Studios.
The programme includes music by Florence Price (known for being the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer), Missy Mazzoli (Breaking the Waves, Proving Up), and Canadian composer Cecilia Livingston (Penelope, Singing Only Softly). It’s a unique combo of music that features plenty of women composers – and a much-missed Canadian voice who has kept her digital output to a relative minimum. (D’Angelo did just join a star-studded cast for Staatsoper Berlin’s new production of Le nozze di Figaro, conducted by Daniel Barenboim and available to stream on medici.tv!)
Emily D’Angelo in recital is free to stream; click to snag your tickets, and catch this limited-time stream before it’s gone. The full programme is shared below, for the curious:
