After plenty of pandemic-inspired anticipation, Opera Atelier is set to unveil their latest production, Handel’s oratorio, The Resurrection. Originally slated for April 2020, The Resurrection has pivoted to a digital stream, recorded from Toronto’s Koerner Hall and streamed online starting May 27, 2021 at 7pm ET.
The production stars Opera Atelier staple talent, including tenor Colin Ainsworth, sopranos Carla Huhtanen and Meghan Lindsay, mezzo-soprano Allyson McHardy, bass-baritone Douglas Williams and the Artists of the Atelier Ballet. Marshall Pynkoski directs, with choreography by Jeannette Lajeunesse-Zingg, design by Gerard Gauci, and David Fallis conducting musicians of the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra.
To whet our appetites ahead of the premiere, Opera Atelier has released a behind-the-scenes documentary by filmmaker Marcel Canzona, taking audiences “backstage” into The Resurrection and into the extraordinary undertaking that is opera creation mid-pandemic. Tickets to the show are just $25, and available right here.
